It is the time of ‘RE’. As organizations take ‘re’ steps, it is paramount to use all of our community’s resources effectively, learn valuable lessons everywhere we can and take the time to evaluate our own efficacy.

Our intention is to create an immersive, interactive event which provides actionable ideas and informed solutions to move your mission forward and build  capacity.

The conference was designed as deep dive sessions around relevant topics, with mini presentations, tips & resources dropped in between. Below are detailed descriptions of each session and here’s a one-page snapshot of the SCHEDULE.

REAL Tools To Evaluate Your Organization’s Programs & Efficacy
Anjali Alva – Senior Consultant, David Schreier Associates
David Schreier – President, David Schreier Associates

Periods of economic uncertainty give organization board and staff leaders an opportunity to turn inward to reflect, reassess, reevaluate and redesign, if needed. What if your team and board were given the magic tools to make this process seem less daunting? Then, what if the steady hands of experienced consultants could guide in the process? You’re in luck 😉 because that’s what the morning’s interactive sessions are all about!

Session I – Create an Impact Efficacy Map
Calling all visual learners! What if you could visualize your organization’s efficacy? In this session, you will have a visual comparison all your programs. Instead of a long written document, you’ll learn to create an efficacy map which measures your mission, impact and the bottom line $$ – crucial elements in skillfully governing and leading a nonprofit. The best part of the exercise is the objectivity because it helps to remove the feelings of attachment we have for some of our programs. The map lays it all out in one visual snapshot, with its own legend and keys. Hanging the map high will be how your board starts every strategic retreat.

“The quadrant approach is really helpful for our board and staff to visualize and absorb data in ways that don’t require finance or program expertise. And we have found it to be a helpful planning tool and way to make sure program staff, management and the board are all on the same page.” – Alexis Alm, CEO of Shore Community Services

Session II – Next Level – The Planning Dashboard
With the map done, we move on to how to determine priorities and distinguish between programs. Again, our consultants will give you a great Planning Dashboard worksheet to break down the big questions for new and current programs. We all know to start with the WHY and then we’ll go to the WHO, HOW and WHAT. Overwhelming? No worries, David & Anjali will lead you through this exercise by using your own nonprofit programs, and giving you the ability to continue using this dashboard with your board & team.

A Journey To Becoming A More Inclusive Organization
Kyla Muhammad– Community Engagement Coordinator, The Conservation Foundation
Alison Paul– Vice President of Community Conservation, The Conservation Foundation
Lulu Blacksmith – Board Trustee, The Conservation Foundation
Brook McDonald – President/CEO, The Conservation Foundation

Session IV – DEI Case Study
The Conservation Foundation (TCF) began its Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) journey in 2017. While the events of 2020 put a spotlight on the work most of organizations were doing on their DEI efforts, these events rekindled TCF’s commitment to their already established DEI work. Their goal is to become a more diverse and inclusive organization internally and externally. TCF’s trustees and staff will share stories about their DEI journey, and will discuss how both intentional and organic DEI action steps have helped them build a stronger DEI journey. Although there is no one right way to implement DEI in an organization, you’ll hear about the actions TCF has taken to shift mindsets and practices toward equitable and inclusive environments and how they plan to maintain momentum to continue to embed DEI into their organizational culture.

We all recognize DEI initiatives as incredibly important, and it really helps to learn from other examples. You’ll have an immediate connection and relationship with the TCF team, who are ready to provide supportive encouragement and will share resources they’ve developed on their DEI journey.
