SUMMARY:Sleep Out Saturday
DESCRIPTION:Join the estimated 2\,000 teens and adults in an outdoor\, all-night movement and fundraiser assisting local homeless families: the 13th annual “Sleep Out Saturday”. Approximately 75 sleep-out sites participate throughout DuPage County on church lawns\, in school parking lots and in families’ back yards supporting the #HomelessNoMore movement. Participants choose to leave the comforts of a warm bed in exchange for sleeping in cardboard box homes\, portable tents and inside cars – experiencing a night as homeless families are forced to often do. From beneath sleeping bags and around campfires\, participants create awareness of the growing need for shelter for at-risk families and raise money to support Bridge Communities’ programs\, including transitional housing\, life-skills mentoring\, financial counseling\, employment training\, tutoring and other services. \nTo learn more and sign up to participate in Sleep Out Saturday visit SleepOutSaturday.org \nThe person to contact for any questions regarding Sleep Out Saturday is Chad Pedigo\, 630-545-1345 ext. 19 and chad.pedigo@bridgecommunities.org\nSleep Out Saturday will take place on November 5th. There is a Sleep Out Rally that starts at 6:00pm in the Bridge Communities office parking lot (505 Crescent Blvd\, Glen Ellyn\, IL 60137).

SUMMARY:Ensure Organizational Leadership: Succession Planning for All
DESCRIPTION:Hosted at North Park University\, Chicago\, IL \nAbout this Session: \nThe most valuable asset of a nonprofit organization is its executive director/chief executive officer; a critical function of the governing board of an organization is the hiring and monitoring of its ED/CEO.  The board is obligated to ensure leadership continuity\, and the ED/CEO should likewise attend to succession readiness at the executive level. This workshop session will focus on the board’s involvement with succession planning; and the ED/CEO’s role in overall succession planning of the senior leadership team. This entails an intentional value for transparency\, a commitment of time and planning\, and a focus on strengthening skills and leadership capacities. We will review effective policies and procedures that need to be in place and building a “bench” (or “cross-training”) as an effective tool for succession planning. Consideration will be made of the impact of the size of the organization\, and the skills and capacity of its existing leadership. The workshop format will be based on creative discussion (including case examples from participants) and developing the components of an individual plan for succession. \nFor more information and registration\, visit: Axelson Center for NFP Management

SUMMARY:When Volunteers are More Valuable than Money
DESCRIPTION:Hosted at North Park University\, Chicago\, IL \nAbout this Session:  For many nonprofits\, the offer from a volunteer to help on a website\, look at a budget\, or provide database support is a double-edged sword. Help is nice\, but the wrong help on these critical infrastructure challenges is doubly costly as a nonprofit must find a way to first “use” the volunteer and still make sure the work gets done. Join Elizabeth Schwan-Rosenwald to learn about best practices in using skilled-based volunteers in ways that work for your organization and the volunteer. Hear what success can look like based on 15 years of learnings from the Taproot Foundation and think about how to make sure volunteers are working for you! \nFor more information and registration\, visit: Axelson Center for NFP Management

SUMMARY:Brand Architecture: Rethinking how you connect the dots between your nonprofit's brand and programs
DESCRIPTION:More and more nonprofits seem to be struggling with how to organize communications in looking at a full brand review versus specific programs or initiatives\, which are often considered “sub-brands”. How should you visually represent the new program you’re rolling out–does it get its own logo or use your main one? What should you do when a particular initiative is more visible or better-known than your organization itself?\nOn this webinar\, Farra Trompeter\, Vice President of Big Duck\, a communications firm that works exclusively with nonprofits\, will define brand architecture and share insights for organizing your brand and expressing it in a clear\, holistic way that your audiences understand. \nFor more information and to register\, visit: Nonprofit Hub
